Indonesians, especially Javanese, believe a healthy body and mind begin with jamu. To us, jamu is our family tradition and we blend them just like our ancestors had done many centuries ago. In 2009, Sajen began operation in San Francisco as an artisan producer of what we know best, jamu. We grew up watching how jamu is being made and how it helps us maintain our health and overall wellness.

In 2011, Sajen received a travel award that took the company to London and Malaysia. In Malaysia, it formed a sister company Sajen Foods & Beverage Sdn. Bhd with local partners and farmers. The goals are: - Grow our own raw ingredients
- Share knowledge and wisdom with local farmers
- Revisit farming & cultivating techniques
- Promote the concept of social forestry
Sajen Inc. will work closely with local farmers to practice organic as well as bio-dynamic cultivation, as our ancestors had done before the proliferation of chemical fertilizers. WHAT IS JAMU?

Ethnic Javanese and Balinese in Indonesia, view jamu (began as a tonic) as a way of life. They have it the morning and the afternoon. Throughout the years, jamu has evolved from a tonic to skincare and herbal supplement products.
But our jamu remains the same, in a form of refreshing and healing brew just like our grandmothers prepared them centuries ago.
The origin of jamu remains a mystery but Indonesians claim that it began in ancient palaces in Yogjakarta and Surakarta (now Solo). For us, jamu began in the kitchen of our ancestral grandmothers in Central Java, Indonesia. Essentially, jamu is a delicate blend of roots, leaves, barks, flower buds, fruits, and spices, brewed to energize and immunize the body, naturally! It is a "go-to" solution for common ailments, ranging
from common cold and aches and pains to infertility and libido. People in Bali
and Java depend on jamu for their health, energy, strength,
body-mind balance, and internal and external radiance.
There are more than three hundred known jamu blends, about ten common jamu blends are readily available in local markets in Indonesia. Jamu blenders do make special blends, on-demand. Jamu functions as health tonic and refreshing drinks to
the people in rural areas (kampung) and has remains as their primary health-care system. People living in the urban areas such as Jakarta consume jamu to maintain outer beauty in skincare and weight loss products.
Our ancestors worked hard to create jamu blends made of local, sustainable, fresh cut aromatic roots and spices assembled from the forests of the tropical region of the world, the source of raw ingredients for two-third of all pharmaceutical products.
Jamu is well-known to Indonesians, Malaysians, and Singaporeans, as they consume it to heal wounds quickly, rejuvenate, and strengthen immune
